Community Involvement

Mandel Group has invested hundreds of millions of dollars into rebuilding the City of Milwaukee. Of all the money we've spent on building our community, perhaps the most important dollars are those that we contribute to its livability. In many ways, Mandel Group is investing for our future — the future of our city's residents and the future of our neighborhoods and downtown.

The following are just a few examples of Mandel Group's investment in Milwaukee:

ACRE Program

ACRE Program

Mandel Group underwrites the Associates in Commercial Real Estate — “ACRE” — program at the Marquette University School of Business. The ACRE program is specifically targeted at increasing the participation of minorities in the areas of commercial real estate and real estate development. The return on this investment are job opportunities for minority graduates who previously lacked the educational background and — perhaps as importantly — the referrals and business network within the industry, to propel their new careers.

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Carbon Neutral House Project

In 2009, Mandel Group was a proud sponsor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee carbon neutral house project — meltwater. Over the past two years, the students designed a small, energy-efficient solar home on campus, as part of the Solar Decathlon competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.

After being built on campus, the home was taken down in pieces and shipped to Washington, where it was put back together over the past week. UWM is one of 20 teams selected to compete in the Solar Decathlon and is the first entrant in the competition from Wisconsin. Read More»

Fresh Coast Classic

Fresh Coast Classic

Mandel Group is an inaugural sponsor of The Fresh Coast Classic, a Milwaukee-based basketball tournament for national college programs from African American universities and colleges. Held at the Midwest Center, The Fresh Coast Classic features not only competitive basketball but also a college forum at which representatives from participating universities encourage college-track educations for those attending.

Emerging Business Enterprise Participation

In many of its development projects, Mandel Group has worked closely with the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County to exceed goals for minority and emerging business enterprise — “EBE” — hiring for the construction of new Mandel developments. Mandel Group has also established its own internal goals for minority hiring, with a specific emphasis on creating the capacity for minority subcontractors to succeed as business owners and employers, not just as employees.

Community Outreach

Mandel Group invests in the neighborhoods where it develops. In many cases, Mandel Group developments create new neighborhoods, complete with public parks and amenities. Through sponsorship of local events such as neighborhood green markets, and support of minority and local chambers of commerce, Mandel Group extends its community-building efforts into Milwaukee's neighborhoods.
