Barry Mandel: A visionary in Milwaukee

7/10/2013 - Barry Mandel, president of Mandel Group Inc., has been a visionary for the city of Milwaukee by helping to create and improve neighborhoods with high-quality apartments, condominiums and retail developments. Mandel, who has been active in the commercial real estate industry for 27 years, started MGI in 1991, which includes operations in development, construction and property management.

Mandel’s primary real estate focus is luxury multi-family rental communities, luxury condominiums and neighborhood retail development. His firm is recognized as the premier residential multifamily developer in the greater Milwaukee area. Leadership in product design, excellence in control over the construction process and skill in economic value has gained Mandel Group the respect of investors and loyalty of the residents.

Mandel’s residential developments include both market rent apartments as well as many low-income units to benefit all people in and around the city of Milwaukee. Since 1992, Mandel has developed 1,900 apartments/condo units within Milwaukee and the first ring suburbs.

Mandel, a native of Milwaukee, is the successor to the Milwaukee division of Trammell Crow residential, for which Mandel was the division partner. Since its inception, MGI has developed and constructed more than $500 million in residential and retail developments.

MGI has financed, acquired and/or sold about $700 million of real estate. Communities developed by MGI have received numerous awards for design excellence, including the prestigious Urban Land Institute Award for Excellence for the East Pointe redevelopment, and national awards for the quality of its housing developments from the National Association of Homebuilders. The company and its portfolio of completed developments are regarded as the finest in luxury multifamily housing within metropolitan Milwaukee.

During his career Mandel also has received several awards and citations, including awards from the Metropolitan Builders Association of Greater Milwaukee, the National Association of Home Builders and the Building Owners and Management Association. In addition, Mandel was the past chair and a current member of the Multi-family Gold Council of the Urban Land Institute. He also is a member of the National Association of Home Builders and the National Multi-Housing Council.
